TEDxYouth 2023

St Mary's College Celebrates 3rd Successful Year of TEDxYouth Event: Exploring the Power of Perspective

St Mary's College proudly announces the triumphant culmination of its third consecutive year hosting TEDxYouth@StMarysCollege, a platform that embraces innovative ideas and fosters dialogue among the youth. The event, themed "The Power of Perspective," saw an impressive gathering of students, guest speakers, and workshop enthusiasts, all eager to explore diverse viewpoints and share transformative insights.

The engaging event, which took place on 22 August 2023, proved to be an exceptional occasion for intellectual growth and interactive learning. This year's theme, "The Power of Perspective," encouraged participants to delve into various angles of perception and broaden their understanding of the world around them.

The highlight of the event was the inclusion of three enlightening workshops, each designed to ignite creativity and holistic well-being. Participants had the opportunity to engage in workshops that not only added depth to the event but also provided the children with practical tools for personal growth. The first workshop “Mindful Visions" explored perspective through meditation. The second workshop, “Ink and Insights" allowed students to unleash the Power of Perspective with Neurographica. The last workshop “Senses Reimaged" embraced perspective by replicating sensory experiences and allowed students to see and hear as if they had a vision or hearing impairment.

The heart of TEDxYouth lies in the remarkable student speakers who take the stage with their stories and ideas. St Mary's College proudly showcased six talented student speakers: Sophie Roder, Lacey Thomas, Ella Looker, Mia Thomas, Laura Davies, and Skyla Birch. Their unique perspectives and thought-provoking talks captivated the audience and reaffirmed the potential of the youth as change-makers.

In addition to the student speakers, the event featured esteemed guest speakers who shared their expertise and insights. The line up included Anton Guinea, April Spadina, Bryton Wishart, and Mat Eyles. Their contributions brought valuable depth to the discussions and added a layer of professional insight to the event.

St Mary's College expresses its profound gratitude to Higgins Coatings for their generous sponsorship of this year's TEDxYouth event. Their support played an instrumental role in ensuring the success and impact of the event, underscoring their commitment to empowering the youth and fostering intellectual growth.

The college looks forward to continuing the tradition of TEDxYouth in the years to come, as it remains dedicated to providing a platform for sharing ideas and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is on a mission to discover and spread ideas that spark imagination, embrace possibility and catalyze impact. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the hundreds of TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed)  and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, more than 3,000 independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future. View a full list of TED's many programs and initiatives.
